Reflections from the College Autism Network Summit

Last week, Jenifer, Nicole, and I had the privilege of representing SocialWise VR at the College Autism Network (CAN) Annual Summit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was an incredible few days of connection and learning. Dozens of educators, clinicians, and students stopped by our booth to experience firsthand how immersive VR can help build social confidence. A few curious students even put on the headset and before I knew it, began speaking directly to the virtual actors! Proof of just how lifelike and engaging SocialWise VR experiences can be.

What stood out most was the energy and dedication I saw. Everyone we met shared one goal: helping this community build the skills and confidence to thrive… especially as they prepare for the workforce. That mission resonates deeply with us. We left CAN even more convinced that immersive, evidence-based tools like SocialWise VR can play a powerful role in preparing individuals for real-world employment, and we’re excited by the potential to partner with organizations who want to experience how the power of virtual reality will make a more resilient and contributing community.

We owe a huge thank-you to Lee Burdette Williams and her team for putting together such a well-run event. The poster sessions were inspiring and the research on display reminded us that progress is happening (though there’s still plenty of work ahead). We’re humbled to be part of a community pushing toward a more equitable and prepared future for autistic adults, and we’re just getting started.
