Program Title: Perceived Effectiveness of SocialWise VR: Enhancing Social Skills in Young Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Nov 2 - 5, 2025

Presented by:
SocialWise VR co-founders Jenifer Shahin & Nicole Lockerman, BASIS program students (PennWest Edinboro) and Graduate Assistant(s).

This study explores how young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) perceive the effectiveness of SocialWise VR (SWVR), a virtual reality platform designed to support social communication skill development. Conducted in collaboration with the Boro Autism Support Initiative for Success (BASIS) at PennWest Edinboro, the research gathered feedback through pre/post surveys and interviews. Rather than measuring behavioral outcomes, the study centers on participant experience and self-assessment. Findings suggest SWVR may enhance users’ self-perceived readiness for real-world social interactions.
